SCHOLARSHIP
Dr. Kelsey Moss is a scholar of religious encounter, change, and exchange. Her academic work examines the spiritual traditions of the African Diaspora and explores the intersections of religion and race through the histories of slavery and colonialism in the Americas.
She is assistant professor in the School of Religion at the University of Southern California. She received her Ph.D. in Religion and Africana Studies at Princeton University and her B.A. at Stanford University.
Dr. Moss is currently working on a manuscript, Modernity’s Soul Wound: Spiritual Racialiazation and Historical Trauma in the Atlantic World, that considers the impact and effects of the processes of spiritual colonization and racialization on the worldviews, beliefs, practices, and daily experiences of African and indigenous peoples in the colonial Americas. It explores these themes through the lens of historical, ancestral, and collective trauma.
Her broader academic interests include African Diasporic religions, indigenous spiritual traditions, religion and the natural world, intersections of science and spirituality, and the reclamation of ancestral wisdom traditions as valid ways of knowing in the modern world and academic discourse.
HEALING
Dr. Moss’ healing work organically emerged from her work researching and teaching about Africana spiritual traditions and the histories of spiritual and racial violence that enslaved Africans experienced enduring slavery, colonization, and their ongoing legacies.
Through this journey, she became aware of the intimate and personal challenges that her own ancestors— African, European, and Native American— had experienced through those historical processes.
She tracked and explored the ways that many patterns, behaviors, relationship dynamics, and health challenges in her own life and family line had direct connection to ancestral trauma imprints that had not had the opportunity to find healing and resolution.
A deep healing journey ensued to address and engage the ways those epigenetic trauma patterns were still repeating in identifiable ways.
Over the last decade, Dr. Moss trained in modalities of mindfulness, energy healing, somatic therapy, shamanic ritual technologies, and neurofeedback. She is a certified practitioner of Innerlight Energy Balancing Therapy and is initiated as a ritual ancestral healing practitioner in a lineage of earth-based shamanic medicine transmitted and preserved by the Dagara people of Burkina Faso.
These diverse approaches and practices now inform a highly customized approach to helping her clients find the deeper and multidimensional roots of some of the most intractable challenges they are experiencing in their lives and relationships.
Through her offerings, she helps her clients tune back into their soul's deepest knowing and find their highest purpose and expression. The essence of her work treats the whole person— heart, mind, body and spirit— giving rich insight that provides a catalyst for profound clarity that brings each aspect of self into deep alignment.

Energy Medicine Session
An energy medicine session is a direct way to explore the deeper roots and multidimensional layers of one’s current experience. It is the ideal first step to explore any challenge, issue, or opportunity that is presenting itself for deeper exploration and inquiry.
The human energy field holds the direct blueprint of each person on every level of being— mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Using a therapeutic mindfulness protocol, an energy medicine session tunes directly into this energy field and the highest intuitive wisdom of the soul, which always knows exactly what is needed in order to achieve energetic balance to move toward one’s highest expression at all times.
Reading the information stored in the energy field also reveals where trauma, illnesses, or unsupportive patterns are held and initiates a process to identify these imprints and support their release.
Energy medicine sessions can be a very effective tool for: bringing greater balance to the nervous system; initiating healing for epigenetic/ancestral traumas and blockages; breaking generational cycles; identifying and amplifying dormant talents and gifts; boosting creativity and energy levels; shifting unhealthy relational patterns; supporting significant life shifts and seasons of transformation; understanding the deeper causes of illness or disease; improving overall mental and physical health; removing foreign energies; restoring balance to all systems; bringing deep alignment to all areas of our life and experience; receiving insight and guidance on the soul's journey and evolution, supporting one's greater self-expression and spiritual unfoldment.
Energy Medicine Intensive
An energy medicine intensive is for those entering or in the midst of an intentional season of healing and transformation. The catalyst could be a health challenge, a difficult personal or relational dynamic, a career shift, a significant move, a new professional or creative endeavor, or simply a choice to make some radical changes to live a more authentic life.
Through a customized 3 to 9 month container of consistent energy medicine work and personal coaching, an energy medicine intensive will explore and address the aspects of your multidimensional self that are ready to find deep alignment for embodying your truest expression.
Over the course of the intensive, the work will:
reveal insights at every level of your energy architecture
liberate unresolved ancestral traumas
reclaim gifts and talents of your lineages
liberate trapped energy and emotions
increase body awareness through somatic exercises
support the integration of personal past traumas
explore unsupportive belief systems and unhealthy relational dynamics
regulate the nervous system
instill new beliefs, perspectives, and practices
support you boldly embodying your purpose with clarity, confidence, and ease.
Ritual & Ancestral Healing
Incorporating ritual into a healing journey can provide a holistic method to support significant shifts in one’s life, behavior, relationships, and expression in the world. Ritual is a tool for the reclamation of our wholeness—bringing an individual back in balance with themselves, their spiritual essence, the rhythms and cycles of the natural world, their community, and the wisdom and traditions of their ancestors.
Ritual practice creates powerful sacred spaces or containers through which the different layers of our beings and the multiple dimensions of existence can be actively engaged in embodied and material ways to tangibly support an intention for healing and greater balance in our lives.
The practice of ritual is particularly potent for processes of deep ancestral healing and the reclamation of ancestral wisdom or inherited cultural memory. Our physical bodies and the natural world are abundant archives of such stored memories, lineage gifts, and trauma retentions. Through ritual, we can open and strengthen our direct links to receive the knowledge stored in our bodies, in nature, and the realm of the ancestors where those energetic imprints are held.
Ritual healing is effective for addressing the deeper dynamics of everyday problems of daily life, work, and relationships as well as some of the more complex and layered challenges of the human spirit and psyche as experienced in the modern world.
Foundational ritual “prescriptions” and ancestral healing practices can be seamlessly incorporated into one’s life and existing journey with other healing modalities. For significant transitions and initiations, it can be particularly supportive to choreograph and undergo more intensive ritual practices that mark a rite of passage into a new way of being. Ritual practice can be done individually, with facilitated support, in relationship or family contexts, and/or as part of a collective or communal process.
